Abstract
This keynote will discuss the development and implementation of the UWaterloo Making Spaces campaign, an initiative to promote the acceptance and inclusion of LGBTTQQIPA2S+ people on campus. Making Spaces is an education workshop and registration event where participants learn about gender identity/expression, sexual identity, homophobia, heterosexism, bi-phobia, transphobia and how these intersect with other identities. Participants also receive practical recommendations and support to enable them to serve and to support the UWaterloo community and be an ally for social equality and equity. Upon completion, participants are encouraged to display various forms of the visible indicators that honour their completion of the program and communicate that they wish to be identified as Space Makers who are LGBTTQQIPA2S+ affirming. In addition to learning about program content and its impact, strategies for successful implementation and sustainability will be discussed.
