Abstract

The Geography of the Peterborough Area provides a comprehensive geographic overview of the Peterborough region of Ontario, Canada, serving as both a reference work and an introduction to a series of geographic studies published by the Department of Geography at Trent University. The study examines the physical and human geography of an area centered on the City of Peterborough and extending from Rice Lake in the south to Stony Lake in the north, and from Omemee in the west to Norwood in the east. Covering topics such as landforms, climate, hydrology, settlement patterns, urban development, recreation, and regional economic activities, the report synthesizes existing geographic knowledge into a single accessible resource for students, residents, researchers, and visitors. The second edition incorporates revisions and updates reflecting developments since the original publication, including a new section on regional hydrology, updated discussions of downtown Peterborough and the Trent Canal, expanded maps and references, and numerous corrections and refinements. As one of the first broad geographic surveys of the Peterborough area, the report provides an important foundation for further research on the region's environmental, cultural, and economic landscapes.
