Abstract
May Luther's exegetical method of presenting Christ on the basis of Old Testament texts somehow be relevant today? the early Luther's hermeneutic departed from ecclesiastical tradition by stressing spiritual and tropological principles. Luther's awakening to empathy with the psalmists, their temptations and their faith led him to change his hermeneutic by emphasizing historical and analogical principles. For, since the Saviour had been promised to the patriarchs from the beginning, the faith of the Israelites was essentially that of contemporary Christians: directed to the Christ of God's promise.
